Option 1
(3 night package)
Day 1
Depart from Johannesburg International Airport for Kruger
Mpumalanga Airport / Nelspruit airport (MQP).
Upon your arrival you are met by a Lodge representative and transferred to the
lodge in the Kruger National Park. Upon your arrival at the lodge you will be given a safari
briefing.
In the afternoon after a light lunch you depart on your first game walk.
This Rhino
Walking Safari offers restricted use of the unspoiled bushveld in the only
authorised wilderness concession in the Kruger National Park. Guests are offered
distinctive luxury walking safaris. Guests can look forward to game viewing
drives. For a true wilderness experience guests can sleep-outs on elevated
wooden platforms, weather permitting of course. Gain knowledge from your
experienced guides on how to distinguish the different animals, trees, the
medicinal uses of plants and basic tracking & survival skills.
Rhino Walking
Safaris
offers private use of 12 000 hectares of immaculate bushveld in the only
official wilderness concession in the Kruger National Park. In the region of 10
km North East (as the hornbill flies) of Skukuza Rest Camp, the concession has a
15 km border with Mala Mala in the Sabi Sands reserve with the game moving
without restraint between the 2 reserves. The concession is an environmentally
responsive area, presenting a great assortment of both fauna and flora and
ideally placed for walking safaris in an officially
declared Big Five wilderness area.
Luxury walking
safaris are yet the most rewarding way to discover & experience the
secrets of the bush, true wilderness & wildlife. This area is renowned for its
diversity of fauna & flora. With no more than 8 guests on each walking trail,
accompanied by 2 armed Trails Guides, you can experience the African bush in
complete safety. These Guides meet the stringent requirements of the South
African National Parks and senior guides hold the highest Guiding Qualification
possible in South Africa.
After an preliminary brief on the 'do's & don'ts' of
bush walking safaris, your Guides will arrange the trail taking into
consideration the fitness levelsof your particular group. In the summer
months, departures are usually prior to breakfastand again in the late
afternoon to avoid the midday heat. In winter a sumptuous breakfast is the
normal prelude to the morning safari.
Overnight Plains Camp in a
luxury tent with full en-suite facilities on full board basis
Plains Safari
Camp was the first camp to open. Built in authentic pioneer tradition, it has
the serenity of a 19th century naturalists rest. Overlooking the spectacular
Timbitene plain & waterhole, it offers 4 comfortably furnished African explorer
style tents en suite nestled in an acacia Knobthorn thicket. The camp's plunge
pool has a refreshing view of the abundant game traversing the plain. A
collection of Africana books and treasures evokes the spell of bygone days.
Overhead fans and 24 hour lighting are powered by a generator and back-up
battery system. The generator system can be used to re-charge camera batteries.
Day 2Full
day at the Camp
A typical day would include an
early start, a cup of fresh coffee and home made rusks after which guests set
out on their morning walk, following Rhino trails and Elephant paths. Returning
to camp (or reaching the next camp) the guests enjoy a leisurely brunch and time
to relax around the pool overlooking the plain if at Plains Camp or the river
bed at Rhino Post Camp. Keeping an eye on the waterhole you may well spot a
breeding herd of Elephants coming down to drink.
After
high tea, take a walk or a game drive in the late afternoon, winding down with
sundowners, while watching an African sunset. Look out for the nightlife on the
game drive back to camp. Enjoy drinks & an opulent dinner while the night sounds
of the bush envelop the camp.In addition
to your wilderness concession, you have exclusive use of some of the Kruger Park
public roads at night. The Kruger Park has strict gate closing times (before
sunset) for their rest camps & access gates. You are allowed to utilise certain
public roads for night / evening drives well after gate closing times. Also,
besides walking safaris, game drives are available from Rhino Post Camp. Another
option is for a full or half-day game drive on the Kruger public roads with a
picnic lunch en-route. These options are by prior arrangement. While staying at
Plains Camp guests may enjoy the drives to and from carefully selected walking
trails, particularly in the evening following an afternoon walk & sundowners.
Overnight Plains Camp in a
luxury tent
with full en-suite facilities on full board basis
Day 3Full
day at the Camp
Overnight at the Sleep out
with full facilities on full board basis.
Platforms camp is like a giant multi-level wooden climbing frame
amongst trees and foliage, with stairs leading from one level to another and
wooden walkways directing you to individual sleeping platforms about eight
metres above ground.
On each of the four sleeping platforms is a large chest,
which hides two decently thick folded mattresses, zip-out sleeping bags, sheets
and comfortable pillows. They seem to have thought of everything, even torches
and paraffin lanterns for an atmospheric night-time camping safari feel.
Day 4
After a final optional early morning activity and breakfast you
are transferred to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport / Nelspruit airport (MQP) for your
flight back to Johannesburg
